Due to their safety issues in recent years, we changed the way we recommend all-in-one kitchen machines. We will only recommend models that pass our safety tests and which score highly enough for performance and ease of use. Some models score highly but fail a safety test, while others pass the safety tests but don’t score highly enough.

With the right precautions, there are some worth considering.

Kim Gilmour is a Senior project officer. She manages a range of product tests such as coffee machines, stick vacuums, bassinets, high chairs and ovens, which are all tested in our in-house labs. Kim’s work gives people access to robust, independent advice and helps consumers make informed decisions about their purchases. Her work also helps to keep manufacturers in check, by regularly exposing product flaws which can result in better and safer products.  Prior to CHOICE, Kim spent 16 years working as a technology journalist in Sydney and London. With several years as a senior researcher/writer at our UK sister organisation, Which?. Kim has authored how-to technology books such as Spotify for Dummies and Digital Photography for the Older and Wiser.  Kim has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Journalism) from Charles Sturt University. Fiona Mair tests and compares appliances in the CHOICE kitchen lab, from ovens, cooktops, BBQ's and air fryers, to espresso machines, blenders, food processors, microwaves, frypans and more. Fiona is also involved in Test Research, to help manufacturers with their product development for kitchen appliances. Fiona also conducts and judges food taste tests and is a judge for Sydney Royal Fine Food Show.  She develops consumer-focused recipes and technical methods for testing kitchen appliances.  Fiona has a degree in home economics and dietary supervision. Fiona has been at CHOICE since 1997 and previously worked as a dietary supervisor at a children's hospital.  Fiona wants to help people to save time and money in the kitchen, reduce waste and landfill and to enjoy eating foods they've prepared from scratch.
