I joined CHOICE as a content producer in July 2014 and am currently team leader of the household department. I write about a variety of products such as coffee machines, stick vacuums, bassinets, high chairs and ovens, which are tested by our in-house lab staff. Our reports help people make informed decisions about their purchases. We also keep manufacturers in check, regularly exposing product flaws which can result in better, safer products. Making a difference is what I enjoy most about my role. Prior to CHOICE, I spent 16 years working as a technology journalist in Sydney and London. I spent several years as a senior researcher/writer at our UK sister organisation, Which? Giving people access to robust, independent advice is something I have always felt strongly about. I'm also the author of several how-to technology books such as Spotify for Dummies and Digital Photography for the Older and Wiser and am a communications graduate of Charles Sturt University.  You can find me on LinkedIn.

I am a test coordinator at CHOICE, which means my job is to put all different kinds of products to the test. From babies' products like cots and strollers to small appliances like electric blankets and even pillows, I go through them all to separate the safe from the not-so-safe and determine which products are better bang for your buck. I hold a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sydney, and prior to joining CHOICE I was in Hong Kong working in other international laboratories and running test programs for major brand clients. Being able to work at CHOICE means I can not only put my expertise to good use, but I can do it for a better cause as well. On top of my work at CHOICE, I'm involved in several Standards Australia technical committees on key product safety standards, including toys, children's furniture, and prams and strollers. Working in the laboratory, tearing down babies' products, and looking at safety standards was not on my list of future careers when I was at university, but I'm happy I made the choice. LinkedIn

I joined CHOICE because I admire and value the important work they do for Australian consumers. By being part of this organisation, I can support and contribute to its goal of working for fair, safe and just markets that meet the needs of everyday Australians. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, and before working for CHOICE, I worked as a design engineer specialising in software and firmware for industrial machines used in the manufacture of electronic components. I've also spent a number of years as a planning engineer for an appliances manufacturer in the Philippines. Working in the CHOICE labs, I mainly test children's products, the results of which can be found in our babies and kids section. I also test toys and other products for manufacturers, importers, retailers and government regulatory bodies to determine the products' compliance to safety standards. I'm actively involved in several Standards Australia technical committees on key product safety standards, including toys, children's furniture, prams and strollers, babies' dummies, trampolines, sports and recreational equipment, and playground equipment. I also sit on some consumer-focused committees including conformity assessment, consumer product management systems, and consumer policy. On some of these committees I sit on behalf of CHOICE, and some on behalf of the Consumers' Federation of Australia, for which I'm a volunteer member. I've been representing Australia in international standards work on the ISO committee TC 181 on the safety of toys for almost 20 years now, and more recently on the ISO committee TC 310 on childcare articles. For almost 30 years, I've continued as a professional grade member of Engineers Australia to maintain my connection with the engineering profession.
