Allianz, a German financial services company founded in 1890, started life in Australia in 1914 when it was originally known as the Manufacturers’ Mutual Accident Insurance Association Limited (MMI). The company acquired the Australian operation of Allianz in 1986 and was rebranded as Allianz in 2000.
Allianz Australia Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of the worldwide Allianz Group. The global insurer has more than 120 million customers internationally, which includes 3 million Australians. In 2024, Allianz purchased the general insurance business of South Australian mutual RAA.
