Sunbeam Origins Classic Espresso Machine (EMM5500BK)
Good Points
- Drip tray full indicator.
- In-built grinder.
- Can accommodate taller cups easily.
- Has a 58mm commercial size filter basket.
- Although manual machines are more complicated and require more practice to make a good espresso, they allow for more customisation and control.
- Comes with blind filter for group head cleaning.
Bad Points
- Borderline coffee temperature consistency score.
- Unit is light, need to have one hand on machine to stop it from moving on the bench when locking and unlocking the group handle.
- Awkwardly, both the heat up and steam wand use are the same button. So in use, one needs to turn on the steam, place the wand in the milk jug and wait 10-20 seconds while it heats up and hope that steam comes out instantly rather than water. Slows down the overall process.
- The default dose on the built-in grinder can only be changed by holding the grinder button and pressing it when you want it to stop. This setting is then saved. In practice, it took multiple attempts to try and get the correct dose amount.
- Very easy to spill and create a mess when using the built-in grinder as coffee grinds will tower above the portafilter unless you consistently shake it during the grinding process.
