Apple's iPad is still the ultimate device if you want a dedicated tablet form factor. It's well constructed, has a good screen, and the App Store is second to none when it comes to the variety of apps available for the whole family to enjoy. It's not great as a laptop, but it can be used capably with the Smart Keyboard accessory for extensive typing tasks.
