Service summary
This ad-supported catch-up service for channel 10 is filled with content and is easy to use.
This ad-supported catch-up service for channel 7 is filled with content and is easy to use.
This ad-supported catch-up service for channel 9 is filled with content and is easy to use.
This is ABC's catch-up and on-demand service. Lots of content that caters to entertainment, as well as news and current affairs.
This is Amazon's subscription video service, which has recently started to offer content for rent and outright purchase. It has a very busy interface that could use better curation and less overlap of content categories, as well as clearer labels for content that needs to be purchased. It's also not easy to see if a title is available to stream in Ultra HD (4K) or if it can only be purchased or rented in 4K. There is a lot of content on offer.
This is the store within the Amazon Prime Video section of Amazon's site. You can use it to rent or purchase content, up to UHD quality (if available). It's an alternative to a subscription service if all you want to do it watch movies every now and then. It can be used without an Amazon Prime subscription, but not without an Amazon account.
Apple TV is Apple's buy and rental service for TV shows and movies. The app also acts as a main feed for content from other services.
Apple TV+ is Apple's streaming subscription service, which is not to be confused with the Apple TV app, which is a rent or buy service. Not much content on Apple TV+ at the time of testing, but what was on there was mostly original.
Britbox offers some classic BBC shows that can be viewed on a computer through a web browser, or by casting from a phone to a TV. An app is also available for select smart TVs from LG and Samsung, as well as Android TV.
For all Disney content, including Marvel, Star Wars, and The Simpsons, this service is hard to pass up. Most recently it has included the option to play The Simpsons in its original aspect ratio. It has added a lot of TV shows and movies through the Star service -- it's not just for kids anymore.
A Foxtel offering that is similar to Foxtel Now. It includes on-demand content as well as some live channels (for entertainment only).
Foxtel's main online subscription service, which includes live TV channels. Can get expensive if all content packs are purchased.
HayU is only for fans of reality style TV shows.
Foxtel's offering for sports fans. Can be tailored to show content from your favourite sport. Includes sports documentaries and panel discussion for different sports. Can also be used to watch pay per view content.
Netflix may have a busy and sometimes overwhelming interface, but it does have plenty of good, original content.
Paramount Plus takes over from where 10 All Access left us, and includes more content. You can find some retro TV shows such as Cheers, as well as content from Showtime studios, MTV, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon.
Plex is an ad-supported service that's a good place to start if you want more quirky offerings. Old content, lesser-known movies, independent content, and lots of music documentaries make it worth trying out.
This is SBS's catch-up and on-demand service. Lots of content that caters to entertainment, as well as news and current affairs.
Stan has good curation and categorisation, as well as voice control for forwarding and rewinding, which made it easy to control its playback.
Tubi is a free service that is supported by advertisements. Ads will appear every now and then during content, but you will be warned before they appear. If you don't want to pay for a streaming service, this one is worth looking at, and it can be used without signing in (you forego the ability to continue watching and create a watchlist).
YouTube's interface for buying and renting movies and TV shows.
This is YouTube, but without the ads.
