Bad points
The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) creating a risk of the child falling sideways from the chair (major failure). The triglides on the shoulder and waist straps and the two-tongued buckle devices on the waist straps can be removed from the straps without the use of a tool (minor failure). Possible finger entrapment. A hole on each of the zipper tabs on the seat base has a potential finger entrapment risk (minor failure). The manufacturer has told us it will fix this problem in its next production batch (by mid-2015). Failed the anchoring support test: when strapped to a chair, and a sideways force is applied to the seat, it shifts too far (major failure). Very minor failure of information requirements. The manufacturer has told us it will look at amending this in its next production batch (by mid-2015). Four pieces of triglides on the shoulder and waist straps can be removed from the straps and pose a choking hazard, so make sure the straps are buckled up.
The spring-loaded toggle on the cord for bundling the seat (when not in use) can be removed and then poses a choking hazard. Make sure it is kept out of reach of children under three (very minor failure as we consider it unlikely a child will remove the toggle and it's not a hazard from using the seat itself). Even when snugly adjusted, the harness cannot prevent a child attempting to stand up. However we believe infants and toddlers are unlikely to stand up far enough in this harness for this to be a serious risk sso we consider this a very minor failure. Fiddly to attach to chair.
The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) creating a risk of the child falling sideways from the chair (major failure). The seat backrest height is too low (less than 250mm) (minor failure as the seat is usually placed on an adult chair with its own backrest). The buckles on the harness are removable without the use of a tool (minor failure). The openings on the buckle pieces on the waist straps pose a finger entrapment hazard (minor failure). Very minor failure of information requirements. The buckle on the securing strap at the bottom of the seat could interfere with the side of the chair used.
Four pieces of triglides and two sets of buckle devices on the two securing straps can be removed from the straps and pose a choking hazard, so make sure the straps are buckled-up (major failure). The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) (major failure). The single button at the front of the harness buckle can be released with minimal force (major failure). The seat backrest height is too low (less than 250mm) (minor failure as the seat is usually placed on an adult chair with its own backrest). Very minor failure of information requirements. The warning never to leave the child unattended is inconspicuous when the seat is in use (very minor failure).

Manufacturer response: The manufacturer has provided a report saying the Bumbo booster has been tested to US booster seat standard ASTM F2640-14. However that standard does not have side or backrest height requirements. Not foldable

The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) creating a risk of the child falling sideways from the chair (major failure). The seat backrest height is too low (less than 250mm) (minor failure as the seat is usually placed on an adult chair with its own backrest). The waist and crotch straps are not permanently attached to the seat and can be threaded out of the hole in the seat quite easily (minor failure). The warning never to leave the child unattended is not conspicuous on the seat (very minor failure). Not foldable.
Possible limb entrapment in the D-shaped opening on the plastic backrest plate (major failure). The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) creating a risk of the child falling sideways from the chair (major failure). Possible limb entrapment in the triangular gap between the bottom edge of the side of the seat and the metal frame of the chair used when the seat's legs/feet are deployed (minor failure). There is a lack of information on the packaging (very minor failure). The warning never to leave the child unattended is not conspicuous on the seat (very minor failure).
The corners of the plastic joiner pieces attached to the bottom tubes are sharp (very minor failure).
Failed the anchoring support test: when strapped to a chair, and a sideways force is applied to the seat, it shifts too far (major failure). The opening in the clip-on hook on the shoulder strap where it joins with the main buckle is a finger entrapment hazard. (Minor failure.)
The huge opening between the lower edge of the backrest and the sitting surface when the seat is upright poses a head entrapment hazard (major failure). The same gap when the seat is reclined poses a limb entrapment hazard. The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) creating a risk of the child falling sideways from the chair (major failure). Attachments to secure the booster to the seat aren't secure - the seat became displaced when sideways force was applied (major failure). Gaps on the underside of the tray adjacent to the sides of the seat and openings on the waist strap buckle pose finger entrapment hazards (minor failure). Very minor failure of information requirements. The waist strap buckle is very tight to release - not smooth. Not foldable.
The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) creating a risk of the child falling sideways from the chair (major failure). No safety harness (major failure). The seat backrest height is too low (less than 250mm) (minor failure as the seat is usually placed on an adult chair with its own backrest). There is a lack of information on the packaging (very minor failure). The seat does not have a warning never to leave the child unattended (very minor failure). Not foldable.
The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) creating a risk of the child falling sideways from the chair (major failure). Possible limb entrapment in the gap between the bottom edge of the front of the seat and the adjacent surface of the chair (minor failure). The seat backrest height is too low (less than 250mm) (minor failure as the seat is usually placed on an adult chair with its own backrest). The waist and crotch straps are not permanently attached to the seat and can be threaded out of the hole in the seat quite easily (minor failure). Very minor failure of information requirements. The warning never to leave the child unattended is not conspicuous when the seat is in use (very minor failure). Not foldable.

Manufacturer response: The manufactrer has provided test reports saying the product has met the US standard for booster seats, ASTM F2640-12 and the European chair mounted seat standard, EN16120:2012. However these do not have side or backrest height requirements.

The opening between the lower edge of the backrest and the sitting surface poses a head entrapment hazard. The gap between the bottom of the front edge of the seat and the adjacent surface on the chair used also poses a head entrapment hazard (major failures). The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) creating a risk of the child falling sideways from the chair (major failure). Attachments to secure the booster to the seat aren't secure - the seat became displaced when sideways and forward force was applied (major failure). The buckles on the harness are removable without the use of a tool (minor failure). The seat backrest height is too low (less than 250mm) (minor failure as the seat is usually placed on an adult chair with its own backrest). Very minor failure of information requirements. The 2 tongues of the harness buckle can be inadvertently inserted inverted and in such a case would not be secure. The 2 triglides on the waist straps can be removed from the straps and they are small, therefore, pose a choking hazard, so make sure the straps are buckled up.
The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) creating a risk of the child falling sideways from the chair (major failure). The seat backrest height is too low (less than 250mm) (minor failure as the seat is usually placed on an adult chair with its own backrest). When the booster is placed on a chair there is a gap along the bottom edge which can pose a limb entrapment hazard (a child is unlikely to reach this area so this is a minor failure). The openings on the waist and crotch straps pose a finger entrapment hazard (minor failure). Very minor failure of information requirements. The waist straps might be a bit short for a bigger occupant. Not foldable. The 2 strap retainers on the securing straps can be removed from the straps and they are small, therefore, pose a choking hazard, so make sure the straps are buckled up.
Not foldable. The height of the rear protection (backrest) is less than 250 mm (very minor failure).
Even when snugly adjusted, the harness was observed to be potentially unable to prevent upward and sideways motions of the occupant (eg: attempting to stand up) (major failure). The two-tongued buckle devices and the center buckle on the waist straps can be removed from the straps without the use of a tool (minor failure). There is a lack of information on the packaging (very minor failure). The seat does not have a warning never to leave the child unattended (very minor failure). The manufacturer has informed CHOICE that the warning never to leave the child unattended will be added to the products wash and care label in the next production round.
The openings bound by the clamp brackets, clamp bolts and underside of the table are easily accessible to the child and pose a limb entrapment hazard (major failure). However, this is depending on the thickness of your table. If your table is around 31-45mm thick then the limb entrapment gap is unlikely to form.
Nothing in particular
The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) creating a risk of the child falling sideways from the chair (major failure). The seat doesn't attach securely - the seat became displayed by more than 50mm when a sideways force was applied (major failure). The seat backrest height is too low (less than 250mm) (minor failure as the seat is usually placed on an adult chair with its own backrest). The two-tongued buckle devices on the waist straps can be removed from the straps without the use of a tool (minor failure). There is a lack of information on the packaging (very minor failure). The warning never to leave the child unattended is not conspicuous on the seat (very minor failure).

The crotch straps are not permanently attached to the seat and can be threaded out of the hole in the seat quite easily (minor failure). There is a lack of information on the packaging (very minor failure). Not foldable. When assembling the seat the buckle may be used incorrectly to anchor the strap.

When the booster is placed on a chair there is a gap along the bottom edge which can pose a limb entrapment hazard (a child is unlikely to reach this area so this is minor failure). Gaps on the underside pose a finger entrapment hazard (minor failure). Very minor failure of information requirements. Very hard to remove the tray. Hard to adjust the harness. The 2 two-tongued buckle pieces on the securing straps can be removed from the straps and they are small, therefore, pose a choking hazard, so make sure the straps are buckled up.
Even when snugly adjusted, the harness cannot prevent a child attempting to stand up. (major failure) The harness became displaced with sideways force was applied. (major failure) The harness buckles and bands are removable without the use of a tool (minor failure). Very minor failure of information requirements. Depending on the design of the chair used such as contour and smoothness, it may be possible for the seat to become easily displaced. The 4 two-tongued buckle pieces on the shoulder and waist straps and 2 elastic bands on the shoulder straps can be removed from the straps and they are small, therefore, pose a choking hazard, so make sure the straps are buckled up.
The seat sides are too low (less than 170mm) creating a risk of the child falling sideways from the chair (major failure). When a load is placed on the buckling device (in locked state) the strap adjusters can slip out of their original state (major failure as a wriggly child could potentially lead to loosening the straps which in turn gives them room to get out of the harness). Possible finger entrapment at the two slot holes on each side of the armrest for the tray (five slots when the tray is removed) (minor failure). The waist and crotch straps are not permanently attached to the seat and can be threaded out of the hole in the seat quite easily (minor failure).

Possible limb entrapment in the gap between the bottom edge of the side of the seat and the adjacent surface of the chair used when the seat's legs/feet are dreployed at the lowest setting (minor failure). Possible finger entrapment at the two slot holes on each side of the armrest for the tray (five slots when the tray is removed) (minor failure). The waist and crotch straps are not permanently attached to the seat and can be threaded out of the hole in the seat quite easily (minor failure). Not foldable.
Failed the anchoring support test: when strapped to a chair, and a sideways force is applied to the seat, it shifts too far (major failure). The seat tilted tilted forward significantly in the anchoring support test, and there is strong concern that with repeated occurence this may lead to seat dislodgement (major failure). The seat sides are too low (less than 170 mm) (major failure). The gap between the bottom of the front edge of the seat when it's adjusted to its middle height position, and the adjacent surface of the chair is a limb entrapment hazard. (Minor failure as this gap is difficult to reach for a seated child.) The holes at the side section of the lower seat piece that provides for the height to be changed (up to 4 locations) are finger entrapment hazards. (Minor failure.) The safety harness is removable from all 3 anchoring points without the use of a tool. (Minor failure.) The seat we tested had a buckle on one of the straps for securing the booster seat to the chair that needed pliers to be released and the buckle on the other strap was also very tight.
Even when snugly adjusted, the harness cannot prevent a child attempting to stand up. (major failure) The buckles on the harness are removable without the use of a tool (minor failure). Very minor failure of information requirements. Depending on the design of the chair used such as contour and smoothness, it may be possible for the seat to become easily displaced.
