This is designed to reduce suffocation and SIDS risks. Comes with an electric-powered pivoting movement and hush (white noise) sounds. Serious safety failure: The large warning label one one end of the bassinet tested is obstructing the surface of the breathable material. Serious safety failure: The supplied mattress is insufficiently firm at areas where the covering is puffed near the ends and at the sides. Slight sagging of the mattress base support was also observed. The manufacturer, Baby Bunting, says it disagrees with CHOICE's findings and has "not received any incident reports or customer complaints" in relation to the issues CHOICE found since the bassinet was released. It has supplied us with independent test reports stating the product complies with American and European bassinet standards, as well as breathability and firmness tests. CHOICE stands by its results.

Minor safety failure: The bassinet depth is 230mm which is slightly less than our 250mm minimum requirement. However this is still within acceptable limits. Not easy to assemble as you have to turn the bassinet over to install the legs, which is quite heavy and there's nowhere to grip. No parental lock on rocking controls.
Serious safety failure: Inadequate breathable zones, causing a suffocation risk when baby rolls face first into them. Serious safety failure: Lower edge of breathable zone at the side panel that opens is still higher than the top surface of the mattress, causing a suffocation risk. Serious safety failure: Latch devices on the top rail have the potential of snagging onto a child's clothing. Serious safety failure: Inadequate breathable zones due to the supplied mattress being too shallow, creating a suffocation risk if a baby rolls face first into the sides. There is also no breathable zone at either end due to wooden panels. Serious safety failure: Bassinet has insufficient depth, which poses a fall risk. Recall update: In late 2014, the manufacturer told us the 2015 version of the Bednest met the US bedside sleeper and bassinet safety standards and has withstood sufficient vertical and horizontal forces (this standard does not reference breathable zones). In April 2015, a baby suffocated in the UK after being left in a Bednest operating in a half-open position. Following the fatality, a voluntary recall was issued which requires a modification kit to be installed to existing models, which prevents the bedside sleeper from operating in a half-open position. Current models being sold do not allow the Bednest to operate in a half-open position. Despite this modification, CHOICE will not retest the Bednest as there are still too many failures.
Minor safety failure: The recommended mattress doesn't fit snugly in the bassinet. The manufacturer responded to our findings saying they'll pass on our feedback to the factory to make the necessary improvements. Mattress is not included.

In response to CHOICE's safety findings, the manufacturer provided us with a test report from an accredited lab saying its mattress passed the firmness test. It also said it did not think the criteria we test breathability to was applicable to the product. However, in the absence of an Australian standard, CHOICE stands by its test method and test result.

Serious safety failure: On the bassinet tested, there are substantial areas of non-breathable material, including up to 1cm higher than the top surface of the supplied mattress all around, as well as material at the left and right sides. Mattress thickness does not match with recommendation. In response to CHOICE's safety findings, Kmart says that the bassinet "is designed, constructed and tested to meet the European Standard, the EN 1130:2019 Children's furniture Cribs Safety requirements and test methods... We note your comments on non-breathable material. We have incorporated in our design to have as much breathable zone as possible without impacting the structural strength of the bassinet. We are keen to understand more about testing conducted by Choice, as it may assist in informing product assessments along with future product iterations."
Serious safety failure: Gaps in the curled wickerwork at the head end of the bassinet pose a limb entrapment hazard. Minor safety failure: Several gaps in the curled wickerwork at the sides and ends of the bassinet pose a finger entrapment hazard. Serious safety failure: Splinters and rough and jagged ends and edges on the wickerwork were found, posing potential skin and eye injuries. If you don't use the supplied mattress and instead buy one of the recommended thickness it would make the cot depth too shallow.
Minor safety failure: The bassinet depth is slightly less than our 250mm requirement (230mm) but this is only a minor fall risk if the baby is not secured in the supplied sleep sack, which clips onto the platform of the bassinet. Accidental falls may be prevented if the bassinet's usage instructions are followed. No castors and very heavy to move. Very expensive.

Lots of parts to assemble, and it is not easy to do so. In response to CHOICE's safety findings, Stokke said: "We are surprised to see this result from CHOICE. Both the Sleepi V3 bed and mini mattress were tested in [a] third-party lab for the mattress firmness testing to the Australia standard." Stokke had the mattress urgently retested by an accredited third-party lab, where the result passed. CHOICE stands by its results on the model tested.
Incorrect recommended mattress size specified on the swing tag. Not so easy to assemble. Very heavy to lift.
