Bluetooth trackers are small devices you can attach to items you tend to misplace (like keys or a wallet) that can help you locate them using a smartphone app.
We also gather data on battery life, IP rating, and tracking features in the app.
Some Bluetooth trackers hang off a key ring loop, others are cards that slide into your wallet, and you can also get trackers with an adhesive pad for a more permanent solution.
However, obstacles such as walls, vehicles, buildings and even people can affect the Bluetooth signal and cause dropouts.
Note: All of the trackers we tested use button batteries, which can lead to serious injury and even death when ingested (a particular risk for young children). We’ve tested the trackers for safety against the new mandatory standards for button and coin battery safety, which cover the physical safety of the products and their information/labelling.
The mandatory standards allow various options for assessing the physical safety of a product. We’ve tested according to the toy standard option (as our labs have accreditation in that area) but some of the manufacturers have opted for one of the other allowed options and have supplied us their test reports, which we’ve accepted as proof of compliance. For more details, check out how we test Bluetooth trackers.
Shopping links on the CHOICE website
CHOICE is an independent, nonprofit organisation dedicated to helping consumers. Clicking a “Buy now” link (where available) will take you to a retailer’s website to shop. While we make money if you buy through some retailer links, this doesn’t influence any of our rankings. 100% of the money we make goes straight back into our nonprofit mission. We’re currently testing this service and will consider providing more shopping links in the future. Tell us what you think.
