Consumer Action Law Centre led a joint consumer submission alongside CHOICE, Consumer Credit Legal Service (WA) Inc, Financial Counselling Australia and the Financial Rights Legal Centre calling on the government to establish a compensation scheme of last resort. Consumer groups strongly support the introduction of a well-funded scheme with broad coverage.

His early career was in the social services sector, where he led campaigns for increased funding for child protection, homelessness and disability services. In the decade before joining CHOICE, Alan worked in access to justice as Executive Director of the Australian Law Reform Commission, as CEO of Legal Aid New South Wales, and as Chair of the National Legal Assistance Advisory Body.
