Products

We tasted chocolate chip cookies that are available at major supermarket chains like Coles, Woolworths, IGA and Aldi. Price is based on the price in stores in July 2024. Our panel sampled packaged choc chip cookies as well as ones provided by in-store bakeries.

Tasting

A taste test panel tasted the chocolate chip cookies ‘blind’ (without knowing the brands) in a randomised order.

Scores

This CHOICE score, our overall, is made up of sensory attributes (90%) and nutrition (10%). Sensory attributes include flavour (50%), texture (30%), appearance (10%) and aroma (10%). The nutrition score is entirely derived from the Health Star Rating, which is calculated from the label and details in the nutrition information panel and converted to a percentage. Weightings are in brackets.

We recommend choc chip cookies with a CHOICE score of 80% or more.

She has a degree in food science and nutrition and a master's degree in nutrition and dietetics, and she's also studied business. Before working at CHOICE, Shadia worked as a nutritionist within the food industry, a clinical dietitian, worked in health promotion, and did some lecturing at a university.
